Most.Rev. Isilash Basumatary was born in 22^nd September 1966 in the village Mothambil, Raimona FV, Kokrajhar, Assam. His father Late. Rev. Hejon Basumatary was a Pastor and for many years he worked in NELC. His mother was a housewife. His mother name was Late. Jaigyasri Basumatary. He is living with his wife, two sons, sister in law and grand children’s. His wife name is Chayasri Basumatary, his wife is a housewife.

He did his early schooling at Primary School Mothambil after that he completed his higher education from High School Garong in the year 1984, Then he went for the theological education at Eastern Theological College Jorhat Assam (1987 to 1990) after completing the B.Th. course study he was ordained as a Pastor in the year 1994.

He served as a Pastor from 1994 to 219, after that he was elected as a Deputy Bishop of Bongaigaon Diocese, he served as a Deputy Bishop for one year (2019 to 2020) and then he was elected as a Bishop in the year 2020, he was installed as a Bishop in the year 2021 due to Covid Lockdown Bishop Installation was delayed. After that he was elected as a Moderator in the year 2022, he was consecrated on 15^th June 2022 as a Moderator of Northern Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is continuing as a Moderator of NELC till date.
